Rishi Sunak's Ocean Pledge: One-Year On and the Course Ahead
As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Conservative Friends of the Ocean successfully signing up the Prime Minister to our "Ocean Pledge," it is important to reflect on the progress made and the challenges that lie ahead. This pledge, which aimed to protect our oceans and support coastal communities, has seen significant advancements, but there is still much work to be done.

Why we need a bespoke approach to ‘Levelling-Up’ our Coastal Communities.
Coastal Communities in the United Kingdom are often hit hardest when an economic crisis strikes. Often large parts of their economies are centred around the hospitality industry. Sadly, many communities' past glories as ‘go-to’ holiday destinations are long behind them and in need of some TLC. It is clear that coastal towns and cities must utilise their assets to adapt and thrive. Successive interference by central government has produced mixed results. Many have been left with the question: Will the Levelling-up Fund be any different?
We are an island nation. We need to learn to swim. Safely.
As the temperature rose to record-breaking levels, the people of the UK did what they always do when the sun comes out – strip off and jump into the nearest body of water. But to safely enjoy the benefits of our rivers, lakes, reservoirs and oceans, the water must be respected and understood.
